Hello! Welcome to another great season of FRC! There's a lot happening in NC this year and we're very excited to finally put NC on the FRC map. Here are some updates on things of interest for your teams. • PRE-SEASON WORKSHOPS Mark your calendars for SATURDAY, DECEMBER 5 and plan to join other teams in NC for a day of workshops. Where: SE Raleigh High School Time: 9:45 am until 3:30 pm If you are interested in offering a workshop, please send the following information to me asap: topic target audience brief description If you have a topic you would like to see covered, please send that information along as well. • KICK-OFF - JANUARY 9 NC will host a kick-off and Kit of Parts (KOP) pick up in Mooresville from 10 until 2 on January 9. This event is sponsored by Penske Racing. If you have not already done so, be sure to register to send at least two representatives to a kick-off. This will allow your team to pick of its KOP on the day of kick-off saving shipping charges and delays in receiving the KOP. • 5 HOUR CHASSIS BUILD - JANUARY 9 Location TBA This is an idea that was piloted in Oklahoma last year with great success. Geared primarily for rookie teams or veteran teams with a large number of rookies in the mechanical department, teams are invited to spend approximately five hours working with mentors and advisers to build the bulk of the kit chassis on the first day of the build season. We suggest that teams only send those team members who are directly involved/responsible for the mechanical aspects of building the robot. Please RSVP with a yes or no if your team is interested in participating in this event. This will help us find the right sized location and plan for enough mentors and advisers on site that day. • PRE-SHIPPING PRACTICE FIELD - FEB 13 and 20 If you are able to provide a location for a pre-season practice field, please let me know. Several rookie teams have expressed a strong desire to have a chance to test out their robot pre-shipping as well as have access to folks to trouble-shoot as needed. • NASA/NC REGIONAL TOURNAMENT - APRIL 1, 2, 3 Our tournament has filled and we expect to slightly expand the capacity of the event to accommodate as many teams as we can on the wait-list. If you have not already registered for the NC event and your team is interested in attending, please be sure to get onto the wait-list asap. All NC teams are guaranteed a spot in the event. • TEAM-TO-TEAM MENTORING As of 10/27, we have four rookie teams in NC. We anticipate another 3 to 9 in the next week or so. Veteran teams, if you are willing and able to mentor a rookie team, please let me know asap. I will help match teams and get you introduced to each other. If geography makes face-to-face meetings challenging, please explore the many on-line ways to foster communication and teamwork. This is exactly the kind of environment that many of today's engineers find themselves working in - distance collaboration - so adding this to the FRC experience makes sense. • VOLUNTEERS We are looking for volunteers in the following areas: - Tournament Planning Committee (contact Marie) - Team Liason (contact Marie) - Event volunteers - please register in VIMS at: https://my.usfirst.org/vims/logon.lasso?page=logon Please feel free to send your ideas and suggestions! Looking forward to a great game and exciting season. Go Teams! Marie Marie E.
