Where can my child join an FLL team?

This is a hard question to answer!  First, check at your child's school and find out if they sponsor any teams.  If not, share information about FLL with them and encourage them to become involved  Next, post a question to the NC-FLL Coach Listserve.  If any of the coaches currently active on the list have an opening, they will let you know.  Finally, since team size is small (no more than 10 students on a team) and most teams register only upon forming a team, start your own team.  It's not hard and there are plenty of supportive people  eager to help you and your new team be successful.

 How much does it cost to start a team? What do I need to begin?

 You will also need a practice table or access to floor space that is 4 feet by 8 feet.  This is for the mat and obstacles. 

The team will also need some simple project materials - poster board, markers, tape, etc...

 Finally, the team will need t-shirts and a banner.

A typical team budget for a rookie team is $1000 or less. Existing teams have a budget of about $400 to $500.

What does a new coach need to know?

 How to ask questions.....of other coaches for when you are confused....of the students to help them discover their own solutions...and of your parents when you need extra hands and help.

Read the coaches manual and you will be off to a fantastic start.  Focus on the journey and remember to breath!
